Blocks

During my free time I decided to try my hand at creating some tower blocks because I like the brutal dystopian vibe that they give off e.g. the setting for the film "Attack the Block".

Initially i wanted to use them for my game walk-through but my ideas changed so Ill save them for later.

Here are some of the pieces that I created

Weapon Idea

For this project I had to come up with an idea for a bladed weapon and the first thing that came to my mind was a berserker sword with a 9mm pistol as it's hilt.
This is a quick sketch that I made trying to put my ideas on paper. I think I got excited and added too much details to the gun section which makes it look like a toy, also the width of the gun in the sketch makes it look unbalanced and unrealistic, these are areas that I will fix when I'm actually making it in Maya.

This is the finished product rendered in maya. although i am pleased with the way that certain segments came out such as the arrows on the blade, I feel it could have used more detail on the actual shaft of the pistol to make it look more realistic instead of blocky. It could also have done with a proper metal texture for the blade instead of a simple silver blinn.

Perspective & Vanishing Points

Perspective is an essential in any artist's arsenal as it is a skill that helps the artist to depict 3D objects in a 2D plane using parallel lines. without perspective you wouldn't be able to differentiate a 2d object from a 3D one. When these parallel lines converge; that point is called the vanishing point.

This is my take on perspective and vanishing points: This is a sketch I did of a highway from the walking dead using the principles of perspective.
